Before there was Andy.... (insert heart flutter here)
There was Desi... (sigh)
That's right. Desi Arnaz Jr. (be still my foolish heart...)
Proud and handsome descendant of Cuban Royalty, Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball (let's have a moment of reverent silence here - thank you).
MY Desi. (heavy sigh) My First True Love. (in my 12 year-old mind, we were MFEO. "made for each other." =D)
THE Desi of my elaborate he's-Cuban-and-I'm-Cuban adolescent daydreams. The would-be recipient of my Dear Desi letters (that I wrote only in the absolute privacy of my very personal pink-with-a-lock-on-it-we-all-had-one Diary, but that's not important right now).
Ah, Desi.... (heavy sigh.)
So imagine my surprise and delight when I received the following comment on one of my posts...
...............................................................................................................................................
Love, love, love your Big Fat Cuban Family blog. Found it by accident and can't wait to show it to Desi.
Muchas gracias!
Amy Arnaz

WHO?? And did she really say, "...can't wait to show it to Desi." ???
THE Desi?
MY Desi???
Feeling emboldened, I decided to send him a token of my unfailing love and devotion...
Sorry, Andy. It had to be done.
"The course of true love never did run smooth."
~ Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream
DISCLAIMER: Just to let you know that I'm not as stalkery as all this sounds, I've exchanged emails with the lovely Mrs. Arnaz and she responded with the following:
"Yes, Marta, please blog me and also send the cookbook! And autograph it
with kisses to Desi. He'll love that! He has taught me how to make alot of
Cuban dishes that he remembers from his father."
Emphasis is mine. And I am nothing if not obedient. ;-)
SHUT. UP! =D
***ADDENDUM 10/7/08:
For the record, the Little Ricky seen on I Love Lucy is not the same person as Desi Arnaz Jr., although he is an incredible drummer in his own right - There is however, an amazing corrolation in their lives. Read that unbelievable story here.
Oh. My. God.
Are you kidding me? That's so cool! You and your charmed life!! =D
(Hi, Amy! You can't lurk anymore, now that we know you're there.)

Not just hot but gracious*, too?! This is so cool!!!
* Technically, it's Amy who's gracious, but she wouldn't marry a jerk, obviously, so he must be gracious too.

I was wondering if you were going to blog about this. The other day when I texted you about how MY school day was going and you responded about your day and included SENDING YOUR COOKBOOK TO DESI I about spit out my coffee. Love, love, love the way you autographed it.

Have your feet touched the ground, yet? Couldn't have happened to a nicer, more deserving Cubanita!

Marta, this is HUGE!!!! Congratulations, I am jealous!!! He must, must, must send you a note. Desi, are you reading this?????? A handwritten note or autographed photo, omg, I am gonna die!

That's awesome!!!! What a wonderful feeling. Enjoy it. You've worked hard on this blog for two years to get this kind of recognition. You deserve an autograph picture and heck, how about an invitation to have lunch with the family. I think that would really bless you.
Desi, if you are reading this, Marta is worth meeting. Her hugs are to die for. ;-)
I didn't follow Desi Arnaz Jr. career after Lucy, so it's hard for me to imagine him anything but six years old and playing the drums on
the I love Lucy show. ;-) LOL!!
My first love was Donny Osmaond. I know, corny huh?!!
I had posters of him all over my bedroom.
Enjoy this moment.

COOLEST. THING. EVER.!!!!
Lucy and Desi are gods to me. I was so jealous of Desi Jr. back in the day when he was dating Liza Minnelli 'cos I thought she was the hottest thing ever. Still do actually. I got to meet her about 8 years ago and she was lovely and gracious. I didn't have the nerve to make a pass though. LOL.
How fun! I am so happy for you. Maybe he can be the first guest on your show that I keep egging you on to pursue! Get to it, lady!

Desi Arnez Jr. lives in my small city of Boulder City Nevada. Mrs. Amy Arnez or Mrs. Amy, is the owner/operator of Mrs. Amy's Dance studio. When I found out he was related to Desi Arnez THE desi arnez! I freaked out!!! I couldn't beleive anyone remotely famous would want to live in my podunk town of Boulder City.

oh i ment to say that the dance studio is called Dance Etc. (not that it matters)
