Back in March, I was privileged to be an eyewitness when television history was being made.
The pilot for Wassup En LA? was filmed before a live audience that included me and Eric. I originally got involved with the project after seeing an online pitch for a Kickstarter to fund it, which didn't work out, but technically, it did, because the person who became the Executive Producer on the project read about it right here on my blog and decided to jump into the fray, but that's not important right now. (I'm looking at you, SugarCube Productions.)
Notice my Varadero sign above the kitchen door. See? I'm totally the Cuban Props R Us.
Co-creators Rudolpho Zalez and Carlos de la Vega approached me about pulling together some Cuban props for the Diaz television home. I quickly started collecting stuff around my house and off my walls. Just call me Cuban Prop Mistress Deluxe. (Or maybe that could just be a cool band name.)
We met for lunch at Porto's (of course) and became insta-friends in that familiar Cubans-love-each-other-at-first-sight way. I wrote about our day at the Wassup En LA taping in great, newsy detail.
Here's a 60 second spot showing the highlights of that pilot episode.
When I was contemplating who I could reach out to so they could help me celebrate my 7th Year in the Blogosphere, my first thought was, Wassup En LA. They quickly and graciously agreed to be a sponsor and so without further ado....

Marta,
What can I say.....love those guava bites. Congrats again on this wonderful blog. I have to say my all time favorite sitcom was I Love Lucy. The funny antics of that show to this day make me laugh. I must know every single episode. The great thing about it is that it's ageless as even my kids love that show whenever on reruns. I would love to be part of a cast and be the owner of a Cuban restaurant or on Food Network and travel around the country to different Cuban restaurants.
Anyway,have a great week!

Hi Marta, Que Pasa USA gets two thumbs up from me. I can relate to Juanita, always being the mediator of the family. This show always brings a good laugh. Please convey all my good wishes to Wassup en La. They are awesome and so are you!

GM Marta! I want this swag!!!! I Love Lucy is my favorite since watching the originals as a girl, the reruns and now owning the entire DVD set. I would play the role of the Jewish neighbor who digs Cuban culture, food, etc. and keeps trying to learn Spanish, which is interspersed at all times with some Yiddish!!! I love Wassup! I, too, was an ardent kickstarter supporter!!! I want this great stuff and can't wait to see the show!!! Gracias!

Well, I think my favorite sitcom of all time, for me would be I Love Lucy! A close second would have to be Mr. Ed. If I was cast in a Cuban sitcom, I guess it would have to be the crazy neighbor who always butts in! Love you and especially your blog!

My favorite sitcom of all time would probably be The Love Boat. I just loved that show and always looked forward to each week's celebrity guests. If I was cast in a Cuban sitcom I would play the part of the youngest sibling (a part I know well).

My favorite sitcom is I Love Lucy, not only because it was so funny, but I love that I enjoyed it with my folks and my kids! I'm convinced our son learned his comic timing from a summer that included daily doses of Lucy and Ricky. If I was in a Cuban sitcom, I would be the neighbor who showed up in time for a meal,or at least dessert, and would entertain the fam with her limited, but diverse,Spanish language sampling. I am short on cool, and it would seriously up my cool quotient if I won this gift package!

My favorite sitcom that I still watch is Everybody loves Ramon. I just think Marie is pretty close to what a Cuban mother is.
If I was to start in a Cuban Sitcom, I would be "La Tia loca". Because I'm a little loca, love to inventar una fiesta on a fly, and would also speak to my sobrinas when they can't speak to their overprotective cuban mother.
Love your blog.

I Love Lucy was one of my favourite shows growing up. I love that fact that I can now watch it with Cuban husband, who is starting to love it just as much. My husband keeps saying 'but you didn't understand what Ricky was saying', and I tell him that it wasn't the point of understanding...but now I CAN understand what Ricky is saying LOL

Hi Marta!
My favorite sitcom of all time is Que Pasa, USA! I grew up watching it and when I was in high school, I introduced it to my very gringo AP Spanish teacher and got to relive my favorite memories every Friday when he'd let us watch the show for, "Spanish culture immersion."
If I were to play a character, I'd probably be a lot like Carmencita- true to her roots and culture while trying to blend in with all the American-ness!

All time favorite "I Love Lucy" My character would be mi mama' who was your typical Cuban mom, always there (sometimes too much) always had a great sense of humor and so unique and special like all Cuban mothers.

Hola Marta, Que Pasa USA? is my favorite sitcome of all time. I would make a great "Carmencita." I have great memories of sitting in front of the TV watching every single episode with my parents when I arrived from Cuba. Recently purchased the DVDs to relive those moments with my own family. I can't wait to see Wassup En LA?
