I've got all this great Happy New Year energy going right now and I have so many stories to tell and I'm going to San Francisco next week to visit Pixar and Skywalker Ranch. I just feel like I want to share the love and happy vibes.
If you were in my town, I'd say, "Hey, come over for dinner. I'll cook you something Cuban." But since that's not likely to happen, how about I just do a Happy New Year Cuban Food (Poster) Giveaway?
Yes. I think it's a wonderful idea.
If you were coming to dinner, I would be torn. What to serve? Check out this poster and just try to make a decision.
Because I look at this one every day in my kitchen, I think I'm going to try to master the art of making Pan Cubano. (See? It's not just cool looking. It's motivational, too.)
So much Cuban food. So little time. *sigh*
I'm going to be giving away Three (3) Cuban Food Posters to 3 lucky winners.
Each 16"x20" poster is unmounted and printed on heavy duty premium luster paper with archival fade-resistant inks.
It looks just like the photo above. Black background with white lettering and some distressing for an aged texture.
To enter the drawing for a chance to win one of the 3 posters, please leave me a comment on this post and tell me...
- What's your favorite comfort food? (I'd have to go with picadillo, myself.)
- Who makes it the very best? (Your mami? Tia Cuca? El Palacio de los Jugos?)
Leave one comment only, please!
Remember that if you want to enter the drawing for the poster, you must leave a comment on this post and I'll choose THREE winners on Wednesday, January 14th at 11:00 am PST.
Gracias and Buen Provecho!
If you're the impatient type (and you know who you are), my posters are for sale over at my Etsy shop: Marta Maria Designs. the 16"x20" is only $21.00 plus shipping and handling.
I also have a larger size (20"x30") and one (16"x20") on canvas, but that's not important right now.
Buena Suerte and Happy New Year!
Marta, QUE BENDICION! I loved reading your Blogs, Your Website and now your family. Please consider me for your Subway Sign giveaway. The other day I brought in my Bialetti in to work and made the staff Cuban Coffee (Cortaditos). Yuu will not beleive this, but I was making the coffee ALL DAY-they loved it. The have come to realize everything CUBAN is AWESOME!

I am new to your blog but is already a favorite. I live in a little town in Virginia and truthfully I think I am the only Cuban around! Since the loss of my parents, more so since losing my "papi", I have entered my "hey, I am Cuban" phase, I now cook more Cuban than ever before, and often get that gut-wrenching craving for the food I grew up with. Luckily I am married to a "gringo" who loves Cuban food! I am a very good cook (you guess it: "no tengo abuela", LOL). I would love to win that awesome poster, and would display it in my Cuban-American kitchen orgullosamente! Thank you!Clara Isabel Matilde Cardet Sanchez Corteguera Herrera de Barden :)

Cuban comfort food (s)... hence cuban comfort body...
Joking aside... bistec arroz cebollitas with salsita on the white rice, maduros, y un pozuelito de frijoles negro pasado por batidora con cebolla y perejil...
Used to be made by my Abuela Caridad to the point that people would come specifically to eat bistec and frijoles and my Tata cooked really well too but now its made as a team by my parents (and if i need it during the week... by Islas Canarias)

My Mom's arroz con pollo a la chorrera. She is 88 yrs old and cooks the best Cuban food ever. She is also famous for her boliche and congri. Her flan de coco...simply to die for. Would love to display this poster in her kitchen.
Posted by: Normie | January 09, 2015 at 09:39 AM
Favorite Comfort Food: Picadillo con Arroz Blanco y Tostones a lado.
Who make it the very best: My Abuela Digna - a master of the Cuban cuisine who still cooks every day at 90 years old. She raised our family on all the items on your poster - a tribute to the traditions she (like all other Abuelas) brought over and alimented us throughout our years in exilio – even in the coldest days like today.

Palomilla con arroz blanco y frijoles colorados !
My mom was the best cook ever & her beans were top notch but she has lost most of her memory to Alzheimers. Every now & then with our help she comes pretty close to her A game :)

My favorite comfort food is Arroz Con Pollo, it brings me right back to childhood birthday dinners. My grandmother made it the best, she doesn't cook anymore but after finding your recipe it seems just like the way she used to make it. I will try it soon! Thank you!

Congri made by the one and only Tia Hortensia. She even crumbles pedacitos de bacon on top and nothing could be more delicious.

I love a good Arroz con Pollo, as long as it comes from a good Cuban restaurant. Luckily, I'm in Miami, so that's not hard to find. I love the poster, it would look great in my kitchen.

My favorite has to be rice with black beans. A big heaping bowl of it. And who makes it the very best....that would be me!!! Although my parents are Cuban my mom never cooked. I didn't learn to cook Cuban food until I got married and my husband was used to home cooked Cuban food. Let me tell you I learned quickly. I bought every cookbook out there and looked at every website I could. (yours included!). 17 years later and I make a mean Frijoles Negro!!

Love this poster! My abuela (Mama) made all my favorite foods. With her Alzheimer's my dad and I split up who would master what recipes. I can safely say I mastered her congre, and he's got her ropa vieja down.... I have my very American husband well trained in a perfect cafe con leche also.

My mom used to make awesome cuban food and also desserts but she is no longer with us so I will have to say I am the cook in the family although I am not that great cooking cuban desserts. Maybe this year I can start making more desserts other than flan! Thank you for your wonderful blog!!

Thanks for the opportunity to win one of these posters. I love them!
I have so many comfort foods but I'd say the one that has the most pull for me is macaroni and cheese. Until recently I would have said my mother's is the best, but at a family get-together my brother-in-law made a batch I can't stop thinking about. I need to ask him for the recipe!
Happy 2015, Marta! Abrazos!

Hola Marta!
My favorite comfort dish is ropa vieja con arroz (and platanos maduros, of course).
My abuela makes it the best...I'm a pretty close second, though. But DO NOT tell her that ;) She will deny it anyway.

My favorite comfort food would have to be platanitos fritos, hands down. My Ita (abuelita) makes the BEST platanitos. I don't know what she does to those bananas that make them taste so good EVERY SINGLE TIME.
