We had a big party this last weekend. We served a very cool Cuban sandwich themed menu. I'm going to tell you all about it in a few days, but today I just wanted to share that Every. Single. Person. that came through my kitchen made a comment about my Cuban Food Poster.
Every. Single. Person.
My favorite inquiries were the, "Where did you find that?" questions. At which point I made myself blush a little and cast my eyes downward and say, "Oh, that? It's my own design." (I've pretty much gotten this act down to a science, but that's not important right now.)
I even had an Italian friend suggest I do an Italian food one, which I think I absolutely will, but that's not important right now.
It made me think that it was probably time to do another giveaway, so here it is!
I'm going to be giving away Three (3) Cuban Food Posters to 3 lucky winners.
Each poster is unmounted and printed on heavy duty premium luster paper with archival fade-resistant inks. I will send the winner the size of their choice. They are available in the following sizes:
- 5" x 7"
- 8" x 10"
- 11" x 14"
- 16" x 20"
- 20" x 30"
It looks just like the photo above. Black background with white lettering and some distressing for an aged texture.
To enter the drawing for a chance to win one of the 3 posters, please leave me a comment on this post and tell me...
- What's your favorite comfort food? (I'd have to go with picadillo, myself.)
- Who makes it the very best? (Your mami? Tia Cuca? El Palacio de los Jugos?)
- Do you have any suggestions for other food posters? (BTW, I already have a Salvadorian Food Poster in my shop.)
Leave one comment only, please!
Remember that if you want to enter the drawing for the poster, you must leave a comment on this post and I'll choose THREE winners on Thursday, July 2nd at 11:00 am PST.
Gracias and Buen Provecho!
If you're the impatient type (and you know who you are), my posters are for sale over at my Etsy shop: Marta Darby Designs. The 16"x 20" is only $21.00 plus shipping and handling.
I also have a larger size (20"x 30") and a (16"x 20") on canvas, but that's not important right now.
Also, if you haven't already, please consider subscribing to my mailing list so you never miss a thing! Look over on the right where it says JOIN OUR FAMILY! Gracias! xo
Love my Cuban food!

Que Bola Marta!
I´m a 20 year old cuban/colombian born in the US and I love reading your blog because it reminds me of my crazy Cuban family and my yearly pilgrimage to Miami. Oh the Cubanity is our new phrase haha.
1) I would have to say congri with a real good chuleta is my all time favorite comfort food. I´ve had it since the day I was born
2) Abuelita makes the best food hands down. everytime I go to a cuban restaurant I measure it against her cooking.
3)COLOMBIAN FOOD! Then I could have to two beautiful latin cultures!

Marta, yes, picadillo is one of favorites, but I have to say Garbanzo Frito with Arroz Blanco, ensalada, y platanos maduros. Aye, si.
I love the way my mom made this and I always have a 2nd helping (Who wouldn't?). I was so happy to find her recipe. would like to suggest an Italian poster. In Tampa, Fl, where I am from, we have many decedent's from there also.

Ultimate comfort food has to be croquetas!
My Abuela makes them like no other and after letting me make them with her the last few times, I've learned all her secrets. There's still nothing like hers though. The BEST!
And I think a Puerto Rican poster would be fun! So much great Puerto Rican food!
Posted by: rob abud | June 29, 2015 at 12:34 PM
My favorite comfort food would be arroz con pollo.
My Mom makes the best in town.
I suggest you make a poster of Cuban drinks....mojitos, daiquiri, guayabitas del pinar...stuff like that.
Truly....I hope I win one...am tired of entering contests and not winning anything!

Maduros and white rice. So damn simple but it makes me feel like a kid again. And I'm going to vote for El Artesano in NJ. Always ripe and perfect. If you ever make a Portuguese version, I know sales will go thru the roof! The Portuguese remind me of us Cubans - very proud, food loving, and hard working. Crossing my fingers! Would love a taste of home in my tiny New England apartment ;)

This is soo cute!! It would look great in my new kitchen..Good Luck to everyone

My favorite comfort food is papas rellenas... Made by my Abuela, but she taught me well! And my in-laws would love a Hawaiian food one!
Posted by: Jennie Rippey | June 29, 2015 at 12:36 PM
My favorite comfort food is Flan!
My mom makes it the best!
Posted by: Diane Salto | June 29, 2015 at 12:37 PM
My favorite comfort food is what we called creole soup in Peru, specially on a cold night.
Since I lost my mom being young and love to cook myself, well I have to say I like my own style better than any restaurant LOL
I'd really love this with peruvian stuff on it!
I just moved to a new house so it would be amazing to win this poster. We cook a lot of cuban food at home and my friends and family are educated on that so I'd have a lot to brag about.
Posted by: Sandra | June 29, 2015 at 12:38 PM
Omg!!! I sooooo badly want one of these!!!! Love it!!!!

Hola!!
I just LOVE your Cuban poster! And I would have to agree with you that Picadillo (over hot white rice) is my favorite comfort food.
My Cuban Abuela made it best, but she passed away in 1993 when I was just 9 years old, so I haven't had the best in a very long time. I try to recreate it but you know, it will never be as good as the original ;)
As for other posters, I would really love to see some Vintage Cuban Ads, like they do for other pin up illustrations. Those would be so creative and fun!
Thank you for having this drawing. I love to cook and I hope to be one of the lucky winners! !
Sincerely,
Tiffany

Hola! I love reading your blogs and posts on FB! I'm 34 Cuban/Ecuadorian y me encanta la comida de los dos lado.
1. My favorite comfort food would have to be puerquito Frito con yucca al mojo y combinada con comida ecuatoriana, un yampingacho y arroz blanco con frijoles negros. Que Rico!
2. Mi mama es la mejor cosinera! She's the queen of the kitchen, gets down on both Cuban and Ecuadorian cuisine. But since she's a proud Cuban, Cuban is her specialty.
3. Maybe something Ecuadorian. Their food is very similar to the Cuban cuisine with a little twist.

Posted by: Grace O'Donnell | June 29, 2015 at 12:53 PM
My comfort food??? ARROZ CON POLLO!!! (And any arroz con pollo that is not A LA CHORRERA is an impostor). No one makes it like my abuela Mama Nola (que Diosito me la tenga en su santa gloria) but then again...who cooks as good as your Cuban abuelita?? If I say that it NEEDS to be accompanied by platanito maduro does that count as 2 comfort foods??? I think not...after all...they are as necessary to each other as oxygen and water in this earth (a little dramatic?? This is platanitos dude!)
As far as a suggestion on another poster...how about one with just pastelito flavors??? There are so many to choose from: carne, guayaba, guayaba y queso, coco, the options are endless!!!
Anywho, your blog is AMAZING! Love love LOVE it!!
Posted by: Michelle Rodriguez | June 29, 2015 at 12:56 PM
My favorite comfort food(s): frituras de malanga, frituras de bacalao
Who makes them the best: my Mami, of course
Poster: hmmmmm, having just moved from Raleigh, NC, t Chicagoland, IL, I will say that an ideal poster would be on Southern food: pulled pork, sweet tea, hush puppies... you get the idea.

I have so many favorites; but Fricassee de Pollo, con arroz blanco y maduros are my favorite.
Now that my mom is 95, I try to cook with her once a week. She had a restaurant in Santiago and she made amazing foods. Her empanadillas are the best.

How exciting that you are giving three away! I didn't even know you sold them...
1. I would have to say that my all time favorite comfort food is Ajiaco!!
2. Mi Viejita Bella used to make it the BEST!!! The last time I had hers, I was a little girl and I can still close my eyes and just taste it!!! And if I keep at it long enough hasta el olorsito tan rico comes back!!! Yummmm!!!!
3. Cuban Desserts would make a great poster!!!
Thanks for the opportunity to win one! :-)

My favorite comfort meal starts off with a raspaito (a raspberry mojito) and sopa de malanga, then moves onto vaca frita with arroz congri and maduros and ends with a cortadito. My favorite bartender is papi with homegrown mint and mortar and pestle for muddling and mami does all the cooking. I'm pretty good at the cortaditos and flan so that's my milieu.
As for other food bloggers, I just got back from Spain and was amazed by their food and regional differences, all incredibly delicious. I would definitely enjoy that.
Posted by: M.E. Santos | June 29, 2015 at 01:17 PM
My favorite dish has got to be carne con papa. My husband is Cuban and I'm Puertorrican. My abuelo made the best carne con papa. And I would love to have a puertorrican version of this! Maybe add "canoas" to it! Yummmm!

My favorite comfort food would have to be empanadas de carne. Of course mami made them best, mine would be second best. Mami taught me everything I know about la cocina. This poster would be perfect in my Cuban kitchen. It would be great if you did a poster for Puerto Rico.
